Our Mission

Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Richmond, the Virginia Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (VAFCC) is an effective advocate for the issues and concerns of free and charitable clinics, their volunteer workforce of doctors, dentists, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, technicians, and other health care professionals, and the patients served by free and charitable clinics in communities throughout the Commonwealth.

We believe that every person deserves access to basic healthcare services. Therefore, VAFCC supports Virginia’s network of free and charitable clinics to adapt to Virginia’s changing healthcare landscape in order to serve those who fall through the gaps of the healthcare system with compassionate and comprehensive healthcare services regardless of their ability to pay.

Our Vision:

The vision of the VAFCC is a Virginia where all people have equitable access to comprehensive, quality health care.

Our Mission:

The mission of the VAFCC is to support and advocate for our member clinics so that Virginia’s underserved have access to quality care.

Our Values:

  • Integrity
  • Resourcefulness
  • Commitment
  • Accountability
  • Leadership
  • Equity

Our Commitment:

We value human dignity and will champion inclusive access to quality, compassionate healthcare services for all. Together with our membership, we not only provide access to quality health care for the medically underserved across the state, but also work to overcome the health inequities many disadvantaged communities face. We affirm our continued support of Virginia’s communities of color and the need to address systemic racism by continuing our efforts toward achieving health equity and addressing the social determinants that influence people’s health.

Our Strategic Priorities:

The VAFCC strives to raise awareness of and grow access to services, and to elevate the health of local communities. These strategic priorities drive member services, advocacy efforts, stakeholder collaboration, resource utilization, staff structure, and board & committee membership. Embedded in each is the continuation of the association’s strong and consistent communication to members, decision-makers, external partners, and those who could benefit from the services provided by a free and charitable clinic.
