Welcome Bristol Speech & Hearing
Bristol Regional Speech and Hearing Center joins the VAFCC
Joining the VAFCC as its newest associate member, we welcome Bristol Regional Speech and Hearing Center. Established in 1955 to help people with speech and hearing problems in Bristol and the surrounding community, the clinic has expanded and changed locations several times, but the mission remains the same: to provide speech therapies to patients with communication need. The clinic treats children with speech delays and articulation problems, adults who are experiencing Dysphagia (swallowing issues), people suffering from Traumatic Brain Injuries, Aphasia, Dysfluency and a myriad of other speech pathology issues. Their doctor of Audiology performs hearing evaluations, cochlear implant evaluations and mapping, bone anchored hearing aid fittings and programming, and many other audiological services.
"We hope our affiliation with the VAFCC will increase awareness of who we are and what we do in Southwest Virginia," shares Elaine Rock, Executive Director. "We are the only not-for-profit speech and hearing center in the lower portion of the state. For the low income patients in the most remote parts of our region, we are their only resource for these types of services."
The Bristol Regional Speech and Hearing joins into a membership of more than 60 free and charitable clinics across the state working towards a Virginia where all people have access to comprehensive, quality healthcare. Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Richmond, the VAFCC is celebrating 30 years of serving as an effective advocate for the issues and concerns of free and charitable clinics, their volunteer workforce, and the vulnerable patients served by free and charitable clinics through the Commonwealth.
