VAFCC Welcomes MSW Intern
Join us in welcoming, Tori Mabry, our MSW Intern!
Tori Mabry joins the Virginia Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (VAFCC) as an intern for the remainder of the calendar year. Pursuing her Master of Social (MSW) through the University of Kentucky's College of Social Work, she'll be gaining experiential learning opportunities by supporting staff in a variety of projects and activities that will build her learning progression connected to the knowledge, skills, and values of social work.
In her own words:
“I am currently pursuing my Master of Social Work (MSW) with a focus on trauma-informed care. My passion for social work and advocacy is deeply rooted in both my professional experiences and personal journey, particularly learning how trauma impacts individuals, families, and communities across the lifespan. Through my studies, I hope to further bridge the gap between policy and practice by helping create systems and communities that are more trauma-informed and responsive to people's lived experiences.As someone whose family once benefited from a free clinic, this work is deeply personal to me. Free and charitable clinics are often on the front lines of serving vulnerable and underserved populations, particularly individuals facing barriers related to poverty, transportation, behavioral health access, chronic illness, and lack of insurance coverage. I am especially interested in how trauma-informed approaches, community partnerships, and policy advocacy can strengthen the safety net these clinics provide.
After graduation, I hope to continue working at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and systems change, particularly around mental health, health care access, and underserved communities.”
