Clinic Ascends to Full Membership
Heart of Virginia Free Clinic achieves full member status.

The VAFCC is excited to announce that the Heart of Virginia Free Clinic in Farmville has met the full member standards of the association moving from an Associate Clinic Member to a Full Clinic Member. A mark of distinction, this higher membership level not only reflects their commitment to serving our state's sickest and most vulnerable patients at no cost, but also demonstrates their ability to meet best practice membership standards attesting to the clinic's soundness in nonprofit management and patient care.
“Heart of Virginia Free Clinic wanted to become a full member of the VAFCC because no one understands free clinics like they do,” said Pat Payne, Executive Director. “No one has better advice or encouragement than the team at the VAFCC. Becoming an association member validates us for potential donors, especially private foundations such as the Virginia Health Care Foundation. The association keeps us up to date on legislative initiatives and offers continuous opportunities to communicate with other clinics who can offer advice and resources.” The clinic provides quality healthcare to residents of Prince Edward and surrounding counties at no cost to its uninsured patients. Services include routine checkups, lab work, eye exams, referrals for dental care, management for diabetes, hypertension and chronic diseases and screening for cervical and breast cancer.
Heart of Virginia Free Clinic is one of 70 free and charitable clinics across the state that are members of the VAFCC. These clinics comprise a statewide network that is working towards a healthier Virginia. “Every person deserves access to basic health care services, and Virginia's network of free and charitable clinics are there to provide accessible and inclusive services to those that fall through the gaps of the healthcare system,” said Rufus Phillips, CEO of the VAFCC. “The clinics serve as a safety net to those in need by providing patients with a medical home and a pathway to better health regardless of their ability to pay.”
