Three Join VAFCC Board
In their own words:
Kristin Burhop, Sr. Vice President of Public Policy & Legislative Affairs, Virginia Chamber of Commerce
Fore more than 24 years, I served in the Virginia Governor's office in the Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Resources - serving both Republican and Democrat Governors. Through that experience as well as my service at the state's Medicaid agency (DMAS), and in my current role at the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, I have learned effective ways of advocating for important issues and making connections between stakeholders to address issues facing the Commonwealth. The mission of the VAFCC aligns well with my role as staff lead for health care and life sciences policy and I plan to use my experience and skills to support advocacy issues that are important to Virginia's free and charitable clinics.
Tammy LaGraffe, Executive Director, The Free Clinic of Culpeper
I started as Director of the clinic in February of 2020, about 3 weeks before the COVID shut down. I have learned a tremendous amount in the past four years about running a clinic, being a part of a changing community, and accessing and collaborating with community and statewide resources. As well, before my work at the clinic I was a Registered Nurse for nearly 40 years and have worked in a variety of specialties including labor and deliver, psychiatry, and disabilities. I have watched tremendous changes in healthcare and disease management in that time. There is great diversity across the commonwealth of Virginia in regards to the communities that are served by the free clinics.
Sophie Parson, Executive Director, Augusta Regional Dental Clinic
I hope to bring a different set of skills and experiences to advancing access to care for all in the Commonwealth as a board member. I am, and always have been, deeply committed to advocating for those who are underserved. Serving on the board will allow me to contribute my knowledge and energy toward advancing health equity across Virginia. Over the years as the leader of my clinic, I have gained firsthand experience navigating many of the challenges and opportunities faced daily by VAFCC member clinics. Additionally, as the director of a dental focused charitable clinic, I will bring this expertise to the VAFCC Board of Directors, serving as a resource on dental and oral health issues for the VAFCC.
VAFCC is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors working to realize the mission and vision of the association. If you are interested in a position on the VAFCC Board, or wish to nominate someone, please contact us.
