Executive Directors Conference



VAFCC's Executive Directors Conference is the premier educational and networking meeting for the leaders of Virginia’s free and charitable clinics. This conference is intended for directors of free clinics only. New this year! Based on your feedback, we've enhanced our event to include creative bonding and socializing experiences as well as opportunities for peer to peer learning among clinic leaders.

Wednesday, March 20

5:00 - 7:30pm: Mise En Place Iron Chef Challenge*

Embark on a culinary adventure with your fellow clinic leaders that's sure to leave a pleasant taste in your mouth at Richmond's premier cooking center. Participants will compete in small groups to prepare personalized, signature dishes from a stocked open pantry with the support of expert chefs who will be on hand to provide helpful tips and techniques. The winning dish will best represent flavor, presentation, creativity, and most importantly, team work!

*This is an optional group activity available for a maximum of 24 participants on a first come, first served basis for an additional cost of $50 per person (a $29 savings). Reserve your seat during registration.

Catch up with longtime colleagues and make new acquaintances during an evening welcome reception in the Delta Richmond Downtown's Capitol Room featuring beer and wine as well as hot and cold appetizers (included in conference registration).

10:00 - 11:00am Changing Gears Team-Building Activity with Greg Huber

Clinic leaders will participate in a customized series of connected problem-solving activities that will deepen relationships and open new ways of thinking. Plan to wear comfortable clothing and shoes so you can get up and move (high heels are not recommended).

11:00 - 12:15pm Inspiring Your Board to Fundraise During Challenging Times with Lisa Freeman

This interactive session will focus on how clinic leaders can successfully motivate their board members during these challenging yet critical times to engage and build connections with individual donors. Participants will gain proven strategies and practical tools around leading change and equipping board members to raise gifts of support.

Lisa Freeman is an experienced nonprofit healthcare consultant with a long history of working with Virginia's free and charitable clinics. As the principal at E.L. Freeman LLC, she partners with nonprofits to develop their capacity to strengthen their boards, grow gift assets, and develop organizational competence.

1:30 - 2:45pm Growth Through Stories with James Warren

During this engaging session, James will share storytelling best practices, take the group through a real life healthcare-related example (Envera Health) of sourcing personal stories, exacting data and meaning from those stories, and using those insights - and the stories themselves - to engage prospective customers and grow. Attendees will also participate in a storytelling exercise during which they'll spend time thinking about their own personal narrative related to their work and its impact with patients in the community. 

James is the Founder/CEO of Share More Stories and the Vice President of Brand Strategy of JMI. For​ ​over​ ​20​ ​years,​ ​he​ ​has​ ​used​ ​his​ ​unique​ ​blend​ ​of​ ​creative​ ​writing, marketing,​ ​organizational development and ​innovation​ ​experience​ ​to​ ​help​ ​companies​ ​form lasting​ ​connections​ ​with​ ​their employees,​ ​consumers​ ​and​ ​communities.​

3:00 - 4:15pm Medicaid Update & Expansion Adaptation Strategies

Learn the most current information and news as it relates to Medicaid expansion and its impact. We'll also hear from clinic leaders on how they are strategically adapting their operations in a post-expansion environment:

4:45 - 5:30pm Clinic Tour at CrossOver Healthcare Ministry

Founded in 1983, CrossOver Healthcare Ministry provides high quality healthcare services to more than 6,500 individuals each year between its two locations; one in the City of Richmond and one in Henrico County. CrossOver provides comprehensive, compassionate healthcare to a diverse patient population, providing services such as primary care, specialty care, dental, vision, behavioral health, medications, obstetrics, social work, and HIV/AIDS treatment and testing. 

Clinic leaders will have the opportunity to tour the Richmond Clinic located which is home to CrossOver’s Obstetrics Program, Community Pharmacy, and TIPS (Treatment Intervention Patient-Centered Services) Program, which provides healthcare services to persons living with HIV/AIDS, in addition to those services listed above.

We'll look at proposed updates to VAFCC's bylaws, continuing the conversation from the Annual Meeting in October.

10:45 - 11:15am Advocacy & Policy Update

Hear the outcomes from the past General Assembly session and gain updates on key policies and legislation affecting the healthcare safety net. 

11:15 - 12:15pm 'Choose Your Own Adventure' Peer Learning

During this facilitated peer learning session, clinic leaders will work together to identify the most pressing or urgent topics of interest and self select into the discussion that matter most to them.

Accommodations

 
All attendees need to secure their own hotel reservations. Our rate at the Delta Richmond Downtown is $142 per night, plus tax. This includes parking (available on a first come, first served basis) and Wi-Fi in guest rooms and meeting spaces. The room reservation deadline is March 1, 2019. Group rate is available for two nights pre- and post-event based on availability.

**Wednesday's optional group activity at Mise En Place is available on a first come, first served basis until all available seats are reserved (24 maximum participants and 8 is minimum). You can reserve your seat by purchasing during registration. Should we not reach our minimum, a refund will be issued.   

Additional Details: 
All registrations must be paid in full and in advance. Scholarships are available for members in good standing (please visit the Member Center on the VAFCC website). The cut-off date for registration is Friday, March 1. Refunds will be issued through February 15 with a $15 service charge per registration. After that date, no refunds will be issued.
