Welcome ODU Community Care
Old Dominion University Community Care Clinic joins the VAFCC
Joining the VAFCC as its newest associate member, we welcome Old Dominion University's (ODU) Community Care Clinic. Established in 2022 to help address healthcare issues that impact underserved populations in the Hampton Roads area, the ODU Community Care Clinic is nurse-led, student-run, and patient and community centered. The goal for the faculty, students in all disciplines, and community professionals is to engage in clinical practice meeting the needs of vulnerable community members including homeless individuals, the elderly, veterans, woman, children, and those with mental health concerns. Currently operating out of donated space in the People in Need (PiN) Ministry facility located in Virginia Beach, the clinic utilizes telehealth, pop-up clinics, and mobile services to provide a comprehensive, holistic patient care. “Though new to the healthcare space, we are excited to partner with the Virginia Association of Free and Charitable Clinics and its members to learn and grow in order to serve, support, and advocate for those in need,” shares Tammy Speerhas, Clinic Director.
The ODU Community Care Clinic joins into a membership of almost 60 free and charitable clinics across the state working towards a Virginia where all people have access to comprehensive, quality healthcare. Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Richmond, the VAFCC is celebrating 30 years of serving as an effective advocate for the issues and concerns of free and charitable clinics, their volunteer workforce, and the vulnerable patients served by free and charitable clinics through the Commonwealth.
