Supporting Clinic Leadership

Collaborative partnership continues with Community Health Center University.
The VAFCC is committed to supporting our member free and charitable clinics so that Virginia's underserved have access to quality care. Thus, we are pleased to share our continued partnership with the Virginia Community Healthcare Association (VCHA) on an innovative program designed to support leaders in Virginia's healthcare safety net. The Community Health Center University, a year-long program delivered through the University of Richmond, develops current and future healthcare leadership.

This year several free clinic leaders participated including (from left to right) Elizabeth Ream with the Free Clinic of Powhatan, Amanda Wright with Park Place Dental Clinic, Adina Keys with GoochlandCares, Lynette Sappe-Watkins with Culmore Clinic, and Tonya Gonzalez with CrossOver Healthcare Ministry (also shown Rufus Phillips, VAFCC CEO centered).

Adina Keys, Clinic Director with GoochlandCares, shared:

“It has been a privilege to attend the CHCU Leadership program. The sessions have helped me become a more knowledgeable and diverse leader for my organization. The topics covered have given me the confidence to do my job more effectively and becoming acquainted with other like-minded people has opened my eyes to new concepts, ways to think creatively, and envision the future. The leadership coaching was phenomenal and a true highlight of the program. Veteran healthcare leaders who understand the challenges of the industry are dedicated to assessing your personal leadership style and will spend multiple sessions stretching your skills and guiding you to further growth. I will have to admit, I was a little skeptical of what I might learn at the beginning and was pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend this program and encourage anyone who has the opportunity to take full advantage and participate!”

The VAFCC is excited to offer a third cohort in 2025 to clinic leadership.
