Free Clinic Expands Services in New Location

Free Clinic of Powhatan expands services and increases patients served with move to a larger facility.

After 14 years in its original location, the Free Clinic of Powhatan is excited to expand its services and increase the number of patients served on a weekly basis with a move to a larger facility located at 2320 Skaggs Road in Powhatan, Virginia. “The new space allows us to expand patient programs and providers which is always forefront in our mind,” Executive Director Connie Moslow reports.

The new building was recently renovated following a successful $1.8 million capital campaign and features all new medical equipment and furnishings that provide a professional and modern feel to the space. Humbled by the outpouring of support for the new clinic, Moslow shares, “A lot of work went into making this a patient clinic. A lot of thought with our builders, our architects, our designers – all of it was about our patients and our volunteers.” The new 3,300-square-foot clinic includes a waiting room, two registration rooms, a dental unit with two dental chairs, a doctor and nurse station, a lab room, two mental health rooms, and two examining rooms that will serve patients. The space also includes three offices, a food and personal items pantry, a small kitchen, and a conference room. The second floor includes additional storage and a back patio is being outfitted to allow clinic personnel space to take breaks. During construction, the clinic also addressed infection control processes with all surfaces treated with an antimicrobial layer, the installation of an air filtration system, and automated doors, faucets, and toilets.

The Free Clinic of Powhatan provides primary care, women's healthcare services, nutrition counseling, lab work and mental health counseling. Of note, the clinic provides middle and high-school based counseling services free of charge to students suffering from increased emotional distress during this difficult time. The clinic serves not only Powhatan but also Cumberland County, Amelia County and select zip codes in Chesterfield County.  The clinic is seeking volunteers and for more information about or to request a tour, contact Melanie Bailey, Community Relations Director.
