RICHMOND, VA., August 9, 2011 – The Virginia Association of Free Clinics (VAFC) Board of Directors has announced the resignation of Lou Markwith, who has served as VAFC’s Executive Director since March 2007. A search process is underway to hire a new Executive Director, with the goal to have a new staff leader in place by late Fall.
The Board is grateful to Lou for his commitment and hard work, and the foundation he’s helped build for the VAFC’s continued work on behalf of free clinics, the uninsured, and those concerned with health care in Virginia,” said Cathy Lewis, VAFC Board Chair (and former Executive Director of the Chesapeake Care Free Clinic).
Nicki Royall Peet, currently the Deputy Executive Director, will assume the role of interim successor until a permanent director is hired. The Board also established a Search Committee to guide the transition process. Lewis said “By mid-August, our Search Committee will post an “Executive Director Position Profile” on our website (www.vafreeclinics.org). This document will describe the qualities and attributes we are seeking in Lou’s successor, and the information and protocol by which qualified candidates should submit applications for the position.”
