VAFC Announces New Executive Director

Richmond, VA - The Virginia Association of Free Clinics (VAFC) announced that Linda D. Wilkinson has been hired as its new Executive Director, effective December 1, 2011."We are excited to welcome Linda as our Executive Director and look forward to the leadership she will provide as we strive to navigate the dynamic environment of health care reform. This is a critical time for free clinics and the patients we serve,” said Cathy Lewis, Chair of the VAFC Board of Directors. "Her passion, insight and collaborative style will be assets to the organization and the 61 member Free Clinics."        

Prior to joining the VAFC, Ms. Wilkinson’s career accomplishments include serving in director and executive director roles for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central Virginia Chapter, Richmond Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), United Way Services, and Mezzullo and McCandlish Law Firm.  Ms. Wilkinson earned a Masters in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Randolph – Macon College. 

"I’m excited to be joining the team at the VAFC.  This Association is an important lifeline to the Free Clinics in Virginia who are on the frontlines every day providing access to necessary health care to those who need it the most: the working poor.  I look forward to contributing to the growth of the Free Clinic movement here in Virginia and helping to prepare member clinics with an ever-evolving climate of change in health care policy," said Wilkinson.

Founded in 1993, the VAFC is the oldest Free Clinic association in the U.S.  Based in Richmond, its mission is to support, strengthen, and advocate for Free Clinics in delivering quality health care services to Virginia’s low-income, uninsured and underinsured residents.  Virginia has 61 Free Clinics with 98 clinic sites serving more than 82,000 uninsured Virginians.  More information about the VAFC and Virginia’s Free Clinics is available at www.vafreeclinics.org.
